Only a few drive-ins still exist in the US. We are lucky enough to have one on the Mother Road in Carthage. This nostalgic Route 66 Drive In is a great way to see recent films. Welcome to Route 66 in Missouri.... For years, U.S. 66 breathed life into Lebanon. Now it's been decades since the highway has passed into myth but this town hopes the legend of Route 66 still has some magic for it. The Laclede County town plans in September to open the latest museum dedicated to the memory and history of the most American of highways. Organizer Bill Wheeler says the museum is going up in a former K-mart store that now serves as the Lebanon-Laclede County Library. It will feature signs, furniture, gas pumps, a soda fountain, a hotel switchboard and a rotating collection of antique cars. The museum will also have a research center, including 650 highways maps from across the country dating back to 1915. Private donations will pay for the museum. It's far from the first Route 66 museum. Others are in Eureka, near St. Louis, and Victorville, Cal., among other places.
